Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, And that I am the Lord your God, And there is no other; And My people will never be put to shame. Joel 2:27

O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds, So even to old age and gray hair, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to all the generations to come.”  Psalms 71:17-18 NRSV

In 2008, the United Methodist Church established May as “Older Americans Month” to recognize the contributions of older adults and join with them in providing ministries which support and empower older adults.  Are you aware that nearly half of the 8.2 million members of the United Methodist Church are 60 years or older?  Older adults have much to give to the church, no least of which are wisdom, faith and experience.

In 1997, the Older Adult Council was formed to meet the needs of our “Seasoned Saints.”  Some of the ongoing ministries include:

  • XYZ (eXtra Years of Zip)- a monthly fellowship which includes a meal and program.
  • Paper Sunshine– a card ministry (approximately 300 cards/year)
  • Weekly Mailings– consisting of church bulletin, “Home Touch”- a devotional/activity page.
  • Weekly 11 am worship service is taped and delivered to nursing homes and some homebound by Butch Clark.
  • Visitation– Rev. Dr. Gene Williams and other church members visit our older adults.  We could use more volunteers!
